The Department of Medicine is highly committed to the research efforts
of its faculty members and residents who collectively have contributed over $10 million
each year in research grants and contracts to the Department.
The Department has a core of successful investigators
who have achieved recognition at the national and international
levels. Recently, a prestigious Government of Canada,
Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR) Canada Research
Chair has been awarded to the Department in the area of Cardiovascular Rehabilitation.
The mandate of the Research Office is to inform, facilitate,
support and promote the research activities within the
Department. The Office is guided by the Research Committee,
which serves as an advisory body to the Head of the Department
of Medicine on all matters related to research. The Committee consists
of appointed divisional faculty members who continually work to increase the
quality and quantity of research and enable the development of a productive
research program for the Department.
In addition to the above mandate and day-to-day operations,
the Office is responsible for the coordination and administration
of the University Internal Medical Research Foundation
(UIMRF), fundraising and special events, research database
design and biostatistical support to departmental researchers.
Research keeps us on the leading edge of medical care.
It ensures a stimulating, vibrant and rewarding environment
that attracts gifted faculty, residents, students, collaborators,
